Transforming Digital Teaching at UKZN

Transforming Digital Teaching at UKZN with PDT

UKZN faced the challenge of upskilling its lecturers to utilise Moodle LMS following its transition from Blackboard effectively. To this end, UKZN implemented the Practical Digital Teaching (PDT) course, a four-day programme aimed at empowering lecturers with the necessary skills to maximise the use of their institution’s LMS, enabling them to create their own digitally enhanced courses. The successful completion of the PDT course increased lecturers’ competence and confidence in leveraging the new LMS for teaching.

THE CHALLENGE

The transition from Blackboard to Moodle LMS presented a significant challenge, as lecturers needed more exposure to the functionalities of the new system. A structured training programme was necessary to enable lecturers to optimise their digital teaching skills and familiarise themselves with the new platform.

THE SOLUTION

Eiffel Corp facilitated its Practical Digital Teaching (PDT) course to help UKZN’s lecturers navigate this challenge. This course, tailored to provide an in-depth understanding of the relevant LMS, equipped lecturers with the essential skills to develop, manage, and enhance their digital content within the new platform effectively.

THE RESULTS

Following the PDT course, UKZN lecturers gained a comprehensive understanding LMS platform and its functionalities. As a result, they have become proficient in designing and developing their digital courses using the various tools available on the new platform. Furthermore, the course exposed them to various best practices to enhance their digital teaching strategies within the Moodle LMS environment.
