The University of Venda (UNIVEN) faced several challenges in developing and delivering online learning content. They needed to establish common technical standards for their Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), provide student orientation for new learners, and enhance computer literacy skills among students. To address these challenges, Eiffel Corp helped UNIVEN implement a Course Development Toolkit, Student Orientation Course, and Computer Literacy Skills Digitisation Programme. This case study explores the solutions implemented and the outcomes achieved.
THE CHALLENGE
Lack of standardised online course development
Insufficient computer literacy skills among students
Inadequate student orientation
THE SOLUTION
Course Development Toolkit: Established common technical standards for online course design, providing guidance to course developers and faculty.
Student Orientation Course: Developed a custom course to enhance computer literacy skills and familiarize new students with the online learning environment.
Computer Literacy Skills Digitization Program: Integrated a tool for instruction in basic computing and productivity tools, enabling practical learning experiences within the virtual learning environment.
THE RESULTS
Course Development Toolkit: Standardised course development, increased collaboration, and improved course quality.
Student Orientation Course: Enhanced computer literacy skills and improved support for new learners.
Computer Literacy Skills Digitisation Program: Developed practical skills, scalability,
and efficient delivery of digital competencies.
